What I’m Reflecting On 💭
Women-founded startups raised 1.9% of all VC funds in 2022, a drop from 2021 (TechCrunch+ $) - In 2022, US startups with all-women teams received 1.9% (approx. $4.5 billion) out of around the $238.3 billion in venture capital allocated - a notable drop from the 2.4% all-women teams raised in 2021.
“When the economy tanks, discrimination feels justified. Managers double down on what they perceive as ‘safe’ and ‘boring.’ Investing in women is still perceived as high-risk. LPs need to look beyond manager diversity and into their investment portfolios if we want to change this industry; 1.9% is deplorable.” - Ruth Foxe Blader, partner at Anthemis Group
Jacinda Ardern resigns as New Zealand’s prime minister - Jacinda Ardern, once the youngest female head of government, resigned as New Zealand’s prime minister, stating she doesn’t have enough in the tank’ to stand for reelection in October. Also, read Ardern’s resignation resonates for women in power
“I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility,” she said. “The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It’s that simple.” - Jacinda Ardern
