Happy Valentine’s!
In today’s special edition of FemWealth Springboard, meet Mariah Freya, Co-Founder & CEO of Beducated, a company on a mission to offer a tasteful, contemporary learning experience that lights up bedrooms across the globe.
Why did you start Beducated?
In my early 20’s sex was ranking very low on my priority list. I had experienced sexual assault on multiple occasions, resulting in low libido and painful sex. This brought a lot of challenges in my relationships, which made me look for a way out. After working with many therapists and coaches, visiting workshops all around the world, I realized that there is a lot I can do, and that there is no reason to settle with a mediocre sex life.
I am originally a social worker by trait, naturally seeking empowerment tools that help individuals to utilize their full potential. After seeing the positive effects sex education had on my life - gaining sexual energy and fresh inspiration, feeling more confident and grounded in myself - I realized that I have found the one thing others could benefit from too. Sex Education for Adults.
Back then, the resources for adult sex education were very limited. They were either hard to access, only available in the offline world, very expensive, or not inclusive enough. This is how I and my husband Philipp Steinweber had the idea to create an online learning platform. A safe place that makes it easy to study from the comfort of your home, with digestible and affordable teachings.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to beducate the world and help our users elevate their sexual happiness. Everyone deserves inclusive, pleasure-based and comprehensive sex education, wherever we are on our sexual journey. From adolescence all the way to older age.
Why are sex education and knowledge central to a person’s and couple’s well-being?
Studies show that sexual education impacts our general well-being in many different ways. We get to know our preferences and learn to express our needs and desires. This has an immense impact on other areas of our lives - our career, our health, our relationships with family, partner(s), and friends.
Leveling up our sex and love life requires the courage to be vulnerable, to have conversations about things we’ve never talked about, and to go out of our comfort zone. That is why the transformation that’s happening in this process is very visible and real.
How is Beducated contributing to improving customers’ lives?
9 in 10 Beducated students report that our platform has helped them to feel more sexually happy.
Our video courses support our users on their own unique journey by helping them understand their own situation and find help that’s relevant to them.
Our platform offers over 100+ online courses, which means you have everything you’ll ever need in one place. You can go into a very specific topic like low libido, but can also find inspirations for partner massage, solo-practices, and kinks.
I think our users love our platform as it provides them a safe space where people can learn how to enjoy sex more, build sexual confidence, and learn how to communicate about sex.
What are some of the taboos about SexEd or SexTech you’d like to shatter?
“Sex education is a human right because it impacts not only the health of human beings, but also their quality of life (Kumar & Kumar 25).”
I’d like to see a change in the policy regulations around advertising and opportunities in spreading our work. Many big advertising platforms like Meta, Google and TikTok don’t allow us to promote our offer, preventing us to reach a bigger audience. This is something the Sexual Wellness industry is suffering from a lot and is kept small for no good reasons.
In order to make sexual education accessible, I’d like to shatter the taboo around sex education itself. The only way to democratize this knowledge and spread it around the globe is if everybody would treat it as a human right.
